2007 Season

Pre-Season
The preseason for ALTER FOOTBALL
has been very successful in recent years.
In 2007, Alter faces 2 new opponents;
Versailles, a perennial D-V powerhouse
who replaces Trotwood
(let's not talk about Trotwood even though Alter has handled them quite well thankyouverymuch)
and Franklin Heights
who replaces Gallia, (2-year losers)
on the schedule.

8/11 @ Versailles (D-V)

Alter Dominates

The last time I took to the pressbox to video my
Alter Knights was up in Massillon at the
State Championship game, so this
was kind of an emotional game for me.
It was very cool to see that the boys
were VERY ready and did not let mystique
of the Tigers of Versailles,
true champions in their ownright,
intimidate them in this preseason scrimmage.

8/17 @ Franklin Heights (D-II)
41-24 Win
Alter on a win streak

View video clips

The Franklin Heights scrimmage really prepared
the team to the fun, the obstacles and the other nuances that they will need to deal with in the upcoming season.

It was all there, minus the band...
the FANS and parents filling a chartered bus,
Jake and Joe doing play-by-play on
ohiosportsline.net
live-game conditions as 3 quarters were played,
timeouts, the 2-minute offense
big plays (good and bad),
and younger Knights showing their stuff.

Many positive things were seen...
an O line opening holes for a strong ground game,
an emerging passing game
and glimpses of a stout D.

It was a fine test for our Knights as we go into the Fairmont game next week.

The winning tradition continued with a 41-24 WIN!

The Fairmont game is always HUGE!
The boys spend the entire offseason preparing
for Kettering's Back Yard Brawl.

This year lived up to all the excitement...
A new Alter offensive strategy...
A sturdy Alter D...
Big plays on O and D

D-IV Alter overpowers D-I Fairmont
AGAIN!

8/31 @ Bellbrook (D-II)
41 - 20 Win
Rough start, RESOUNDING WIN!

View Video Clips

If Fairmont is the back yard brawl,
then Bellbrook is the side yard brawl.
It's always entertaining playing in their yard!

Make no mistake, Bellbrook has a good team.
On this night, Alter was 21 points better (and that's only because they scored against our second team with a minute to go in the game!)

A typical Alter-Bellbrook game with:
- big plays both ways
- incompetent refs
- another Alter win
(the only thing missing was the lightning!)

D-IV Alter crushes D-II Bellbrook
AGAIN!

9/7 @ Greenville (D-II)
42 - 15 Win
Surf's Up!

It only makes sense that if you're getting ready to
ride the Green Wave, you might get a little wet.

The pre-game down-pour got everyone a little wet,
but the rain stopped, no lightening was seen
and the game was played out as planned.

Greenville had their fleeting moments in the first half with a couple big runs and a sneaky 2-point EP,
but the Mighty Knights doubled-down, and
tamed the Wave with a goose egg the second half.

Game 3 always needs to be a game where
the team continues to show improvements...

- Ground game was impressive led by
the O line opening huge holes.
- Nice running and reads by the backfield
(Borland 140+ yards rushing)
- Good penetration by D linemen
- EP kicks hit their mark
- Hall makes up for lost time!

Lot's more to work on...

D-IV Alter hangs ten then beaches
D-II Greenville Green Wave 42-15.
Now 3 - 0

9/14 @ Roger Bacon (D-IV)
45 - 7 Win
Running at will...

View Video Clips

Last year, Bacon came up to play Alter at
Centerville. Midway through the 3rd quarter,
with the score 34-0, lightening struck.
Instead of waiting out the delay,
they got on their buses
and left town!

This year, there was no lightening to save Bacon!
Alter owned the line on both O and D,
ran the ball at will, made key sacks and INTs
and even hit a 20 yard field goal!

Fun Facts:
Alter extends it's regular season winning

This game was billed as one of the toughest
games for Alter to play to date and that Badin
had the ability to really take it to the Knights.
And for about the first 10 minutes they did.
Unfortunately for the Badin Rams,
there are 48 minutes in the game!

The second quarter was simply spectacular!
36 points, yes 5 TDs!
3 INTs, 2 for TDs
(Bayer, 53 yards... yes at nose guard),
(LB Collin Boucher, 37 yards )
1 Pass for TD
(63 yards A. Boucher to O'Donnell)
1 Punt Return for TD
(Jasper 66 yards)
1 running TD
(7 yard blast by Hall)
1 2-Point conversion
(A. Boucher to O'Donnell)

The alumni could not have asked for a
better Homecoming game!

The Alter-Carroll game this year was again
HUGE with another battle of the unbeatens.

Alter came in number 3 in D-IV and
Carroll came in as number 7 in D-II.

Alter got off to a quick start with a 72 yard
TD pass from Boucher to O'Donnell, and
then a 60 yard pass to Wolfe that lead to
the first of 3 TDs by Roark.

The Masters of Defense held strong,
getting 2 INTs (Boyle and Dougherty)
and a fumble recovery (Cableck).

This game could've gotten very ugly.
Carroll's only offensive score came after the
Alter D starters had left the game.

Special teams did another outstanding job:
5 Extra Points,
a 23-yard field goal,
the ever-exciting punt and KO returns by Jasper
and a spine-crashing tackle by Sower.

Alter stays undefeated in the GCL
and for the season.

who takes it in from the 2!

Now mix in a great TD pass from
Boucher to Borland,

The third quarter is highlighted with
an incredible punt by
Tim Cableck to the McN 2

Last week I commented that

Against CJ, the table took a 180
and Alter found themselves

But the Mighty Alter KNIGHTS
hung tough and fought back.

After CJ scored with 00:01

Alter's outstanding QB
Austin Boucher
took the second play of
the second half 70 yards
to tie the game
and give CJ notice that
the Knights were
ready to shoot down the Eagles.

All true Alter fans KNEW
that the Knights would prevail!

Led by the
OUTSTANDING DEFENSE
of Captain Brian Dougherty
(4 INT's including 1 TD),
the Alter Knights poured it on
while shutting down another
very formidible CJ team.

Alter's passing game was dead on.
Gough, Borland, Jasper and O'Donnell
all made clutch catches to
either score or keep the drive alive.

Corey Roark, who ran for over 110 yards,
scored in his 3rd Alter-CJ game.

Keighley was simply dominating on D.
Hank and Marshall, Bayer and Cableck
and all the other defenders played
a tough, hard-fought game.
The massive pressure led to
near-INT's by Boyle, O'Bryan and
a 5th INT by Dougherty.

This was a wonderful win for
the mighty Alter Knights.

Alter owned and dominated this game
from the get go.

When you take into account that
the Knights amassed 429 total yards
while holding the Lumberjacks to minus 1,
you begin to understand why this
was the first ever time that
Alter has played Oakwood in football.

It was a good win for the Knights
as they begin their drive to a
second consecutive state final game.

Some people may not like what
they are about to read.

IMHO,
Alter's focus somehow
left the game somewhere around halftime.

It will be VERY difficult
for Alter to win in the playoffs
if it continues to make the kinds
of mistakes it made against Oakwood.

If you were at the game
or were listening in to Jake and Joe,
or you were actually playing in the game,
you know what I'm talking about...

Alter played their patented game...
hard nosed running, break-away
excitement with some awesome
passing and receiving.

But Coldwater was RELENTLESS,
coming back time after time,
twice from being 21 down,
to tie it up in the 4th quarter at 49-49.

OT #1 was scoreless
(and, frankly, left me scratching my head).

OT #2 saw Alter go up 52-49
behind an 8th perfect kick
by Scott Vannatta.
On CW's ensuing posession, Alter
fans witnessed what possibly was
THE BEST
GOAL LINE STAND
in ALTER FOOTBALL
HISTORY!

Unfortunately, CW also got a FG.

In OT #3, CW got the ball first and
was immediately subjected to the
intense and powerful Alter D.
But luck seemed to be with CW
as they completed an incredible
4th and 7 pass for a 1st down.
Another pass in the end zone
put them up 59-52.
Alter came up short on a 4th down
pass, sealing the Coldwater win.

111 combined points!
